Hampi is a village in northern Karnataka state, India. It is located within the ruins of Vijayanagara, the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. Predating the city of Vijayanagara, it continues to be an important religious centre, housing the Virupaksha Temple, as well as several other monuments belonging to the old city. These ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed as the Group of Monuments at Hampi.
Badami is a town and headquarters of a taluk by the same name, in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, India. It was the regal capital of the Badami Chalukyas from 540 to 757 AD.It is famous for rock cut and other structural temples. It is located in a ravine at the foot of a rugged, red sandstone outcrop that surrounds Agastyalake.
The main attraction of the town is the Murudeshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built on a hill, the shrine is placed two feet below the ground and is believed to be part of the original Atma lingam. Another attraction in the town is the one of the tallest statues of Shiva in the world. With its back facing the Arabian sea and the western ghats as the backdrop, the statue is a sight to behold. The beach is a tourist favorite with a view of the sunset you will not forget.
